Ever been stuck doing written homework and without anyone around to help you?
I’ve been there more times than I can count. It sucks.
Luckily for you and me, Pearson’s MyMathLab comes with an array of tools that you can use to get past that problem.
Since you have to do your homework anyway, you should be getting the most out of the practice as you possibly can. Not helplessly struggling.
In case you don’t know much about Pearson’s great educational software, we’ve already put together a full MyMathLab review for students like you.
A student success toolkit
Let’s dive into the Pearson toolkit for homework.
First, to access your toolkit, you’ll have to click the “Question Help” option in the right-hand corner when doing homework.
This toolkit features four primary ways of helping you in your problem-solving journey.
Here’s what we’ve got:
Pretty straight forward, but we’re going to look at what each of these options does and how you can use them to succeed in your studies.
Help Me Solve This
The first option we’ll be looking at is the “Help Me Solve This” option.
This option should be your last resort tool when doing homework. The reason is that it will cause you to be awarded no credit for the problem you’re solving.
What this tool does is walks you through the problem step by step. It’ll show you calculations, definitions, and even have you do some fill-in-the-blanks or multiple choice answers.
Sure, you still have to do some minimal work, but this is akin to the software giving you the answer. So you can see why MyMathLab takes away your credit for utilizing the option.
Still, this is a great tool to get a deeper understanding of a concept if you’re struggling with a problem.
View an Example
This option allows you to do just what it says. You get to see an example of the problem you’re solving.
This option will open up a prompt where MyMathLab will walk you through virtually the same type of problem but with a different number set.
It’ll look like this:
You’ll get to click through each part of the problem, and MyMathLab will do it’s best to show you the steps to solve a problem similar to the one you’re doing. Complete with definitions, diagrams, and calculations.
It’s just like watching the professor work through an example.
I’ve personally used this tool tons of times when chugging through homework on MyMathLab. It has been an indispensable studying device.
The next option we have available is the “Video” option.
Selecting this option will open up a short lecture video created by the author of the textbook that comes with MyMathLab.
This video will not be specific to your problem, but rather it will be about the relevant section of the book.
You’ll see something like this:
However, this option is not available for every problem. Hopefully, the problem you’re stuck on has a related video available for you.
These videos can be a fantastic tool when it’s not the numbers that you’re stuck on but the concepts. Having the author of the textbook in your back pocket is an invaluable study tool that certainly helped me in my classes.
If you decide to use the “Textbook” option, then you’ll get just that.
However, this text isn’t your ordinary 20lb brick of knowledge.
MyMathLab comes with an eText that you can load up whenever you need it. And clicking on the option while doing homework will bring you straight to the relevant portion of the book.
I can’t count how much time I’ve saved having the relevant portion of the text at a moment’s notice. If you can’t remember a set of formulas or a specific graph, use the textbook option, and you’ll have your answer in seconds.
I know how important saving time as a student can be, it helps us manage our crazy workloads just a little better. With an eText at your fingertips, you won’t have to waste any more time frantically flipping through a traditional textbook.
It’s time to shine
Alright, now that you know what kind of options you’ve got to work with, do you feel a bit better about doing homework?
We hope you do!
Doing homework without tools like the ones Pearson makes available to you is substantially more complicated, and I personally always felt that I learned more with the helpful study tools.
Now it’s your time to shine, start taking every advantage you can, and ace that homework!
