Updating your iPhone data settings for Mint Mobile is quick and easy. While it is easier to update Mint Mobile iPhone settings for newer iPhones, we will show you how to manually upgrade your APN settings for older iPhones, as well.

Verifying your iPhone device’s compatibility with Mint Mobile
Before you chose Mint as your iPhone’s wireless carrier, you likely already confirmed that your iPhone is compatible with Mint Mobile. But just in case you missed this step, you should check your phone’s compatibility here.
You can also take a look at Mint Mobile’s standard for compatible iPhones below:
In some cases, your iPhone might be compatible if it were unlocked. Before you can unlock your iPhone, you must own it outright without owing any money to a phone payment plan.
You should first contact your carrier (or former carrier) and request that they unlock your phone. So long as you do not owe your carrier any money, they are obliged by law to unlock your iPhone on request.
If you prefer to unlock the phone on your own, there are several do-it-yourself videos on Youtube that can show you what to do.
How do SIM cards work?
When you sign on with Mint Mobile, you will receive a SIM kit in the mail. Before proceeding with the instructions in your SIM kit, be sure to power off your iPhone.
You can find your iPhone’s SIM card slot on the phone’s right side. If you’re holding your phone in your right hand, your thumb naturally covers the SIM card slot.
The Mint Mobile SIM kit comes with a pin that you can use to eject the SIM card. If your kit did not include a pin, you could use a paperclip, as shown in the image below.
Once you’ve ejected the SIM port, replace your SIM card with the new Mint Mobile SIM card. Close the SIM tray, and restart your iPhone.
What to do after installing the SIM card into your iPhone
Mint Mobile defines “recent” iPhones as models 5S to 11, or any iPhone running on iOS 12.0 and above. If your phone is a recent iPhone, you should be all set after installing your Mint Mobile SIM card.
To confirm, navigate to your Settings, then to General, About, and Carrier. Your iPhone may prompt you to update your carrier settings. If this happens, select Update.
While inside your carrier settings, you should also make sure that the following features are enabled:
- Visual voicemail
- Wifi calling and text
- VoLTE-enabled calling
Manual Mint Mobile setup for iPhone 5 or older: iPhone APN settings
If your iPhone is not recent, you’re going to need to update your APN (access point name) settings manually.
Thankfully, this process is not complicated. Here are some quick instructions to activate your iPhone with Mint Mobile.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Cellular near the top.
- Look for Cellular Data and Enable LTE – both should be enabled.
- Select Cellular Data and input the following settings (pictured below):
5. Restart your iPhone, and you’re all set up with Mint Mobile!
Text “SETUP” to 6700
For older iPhone models, you may experience a point in time when your data doesn’t work correctly. Should you ever experience a change in your LTE service, simply text “SETUP” to the number 6700.
Mint Mobile will text you the updated APN settings for your iPhone. Follow the steps above with the new APN settings, and your LTE will return.
