Are you in need of a powerful photo editor tool without having to pay hundreds of dollars for professional software? In our LunaPic review, we will show you how LunaPic’s free photo editing service compares to mainstream photo editing software.
Also growing in popularity among social media artists in the Tumblr art style, LunaPic is becoming one of the most widely-used photo editor tools for web designers, content creators, influencers, social media managers, photographers, and more.
LunaPic photo editor tool review: An overview
Overall, I was impressed with LunaPic. Online LunaPic reviews are positive. By the end of testing the product for myself, I felt that I could pretty much do anything that I could in Adobe Lightroom.
Even though the site’s look and feel was anything but visually appealing, every tool I tested worked like a charm. At all times, I was able to undo an editing mistake.
Most importantly, I was able to upload as many images as I wanted and download them with ease after editing. Every tool and download was completely free – no strings attached.
Is LunaPic safe?
Yes, LunaPic is perfectly safe. I spent a full day testing LunaPic and didn’t experience any questionable redirects.
As you see above, I was able to edit and download in any file format I desired or share to my social media page. At no time did LunaPic ask me for money, information, or to subscribe.
How does LunaPic compare to Ezimba?
For those of you sad to see Ezimba go, you’ll be pleased to know that LunaPic is nearly identical to Ezimba with regards to editor feature quality and quantity.
Photo editing features
There are hundreds of photo editing functions that you can enjoy on LunaPic. We will highlight just a few of these features for you to give you an idea of just how well this online service performs.
On the LunaPic homepage, you can upload the photo you wish to edit or select the pic’s URL. To get started demonstrating LunaPic photo editing features, we uploaded the image shown below of a vintage rotary phone.
The most common editing tools appear centered just above the image. You can access each of these functions in the toolbar menu along the top or on the left-hand side.
LunaPic transparent backgrounds
From the list pictured above, we selected “Transparent” to test LunaPic’s transparent background feature. You can either choose the color you want to erase or allow the editor to pick the color for you.
When adjusting the transparency threshold, you can encourage the editor to eliminate various shades of the color you want to remove. Ideally, you’ll want to apply the transparency tool a few times over the area before you arrive at the editing stage you see pictured below.
At this point, you will want to use a manual transparent tool to cleanup. LunaPic offers you a few options (see “Other Transparent Tools…”). We chose the eraser tool to finalize the image.
During editing, you can switch up your manual transparency, as needed. Additionally, you can view your editing history and return to a previous version of your edited image if you make a mistake.
By the end (see below), I was able to achieve a professional look competitive to Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. LunaPic’s transparency tools were user-friendly and competent.
LunaPic photo resizing
If you’re a web designer or content creator, you may frequently need to resize your image so that your website doesn’t take too long to load. LunaPic’s photo resizing tool is fast and straightforward.
I started testing this feature by uploading a new image.
To access the resize image tool, I navigated to the Edit menu. From there, LunaPic gave me two options to resize: adjust the width and height specs or move the yellow dots to the size I desire.
If you want to change the ratio to stretch the image, LunaPic automatically unlocks the ratio so that you may do so. That said, make sure that you know the image ratio if you want to resize without ratio distortion.
Once you’ve resized the image to the ideal specifications, click “Resize Image” to finalize and download.
LunaPic photo cropping
Any proper photo editing tool allows users to crop their image, and LunaPic is no different. After uploading a new photo, I selected “Crop” from the list of options just above my image.
In the example below, I wanted to turn a standard-shaped image into a web banner. I used my cursor to drag the shape that I wanted across the image. You are allowed to adjust as many times as you like.
Once I had the shape I wanted, I clicked “Crop Image” to save and download.
LunaPic change and replace color
To test LunaPic’s change and color feature, I decided to take one of my own headshots and try my hand at the Barack Obama Hope Poster style. After uploading the image, I navigated to the Adjust menu to locate the necessary color tool.
Once initiating the replace color tool, LunaPic allowed me to select the new color. Next, I used my cursor to click on the color that I wanted to replace with my new color.
The finished project you see below took me all of ten minutes. If I were a professional graphic designer, I would spend more time adjusting the tints and removing the puke yellow you see in parts of the image.
However, you can get the gist of how fun this replace color tool can be. In many ways, it works similarly to the transparent background tool.
