Youtube is one of the biggest free video streaming platforms on the entire internet.
It’s loaded with tons of memes, free courses, and life lessons, but it comes with a downside:
You can’t download videos for free straight off of Youtube’s platform. You could pay for a premium Youtube account, or you could use a free Youtube to video converter.
So how do you get started?
Lucky for you, you can find YouTube downloading apps all over the internet.
In this article, we’ll be going over how to download your favorite Youtube videos using y2mate.
If you’d like to check out some other great ways to download YouTube videos, check out our list of the Top 7 Best YouTube to MP3 Converters, most of which can convert to mp4 as well.
Step #1) Find your video
First, you have to find that cool freakin’ video that you want to download so badly.
It can be any video on YouTube. However, keep in mind, longer videos will take much longer to process. So, take that into consideration before you download that flip phone recording of the 2006 Super Bowl.
After you find your video, go ahead and highlight the full video URL and make sure that you don’t miss any pieces.
Once fully highlighted, right-click and copy or hit Ctrl+C on your keyboard.
Step #2) Open up y2mate
This part’s easy, navigate over to y2mate, and begin your downloading process.
Right in the center of the screen, there’ll be a box that says “Search or paste link here.” This box is also a tool that lets you search for Youtube videos straight from y2mate. However, for the sake of simplicity, we won’t use this tool for this tutorial.
In that pink box, you can paste your copied YouTube link. Usually, it’ll automatically convert, but sometimes you’ll have to click the ‘Start’ button.
Step #3) Download the video
On the right side of your screen, you’ll have the option to select a video, mp3, or other audio file types. When you find the right file you want to download, click the download button next to it.
After you click download, you’ll get this little pop-up that shows the progress of your video conversion.
Videos to MP3s, long videos and higher quality videos tend to take much longer to finish.
When it’s fully converted, it’ll give you one final download button. Click that button, and it’ll bring up your file manager so you can select a place to download it.
Keep in mind; this will also open up an advertisement tab in the background that you’ll want to go ahead and close.
Once you have the video file downloaded on your device, you can watch it on repeat, show it to your friends, or upload it to other platforms.
However, remember that a video will inevitably compress and lose quality after converting, and subsequently lose quality when re-uploading to other platforms where it’ll be compressed again.
