We cover value, intuitive design, and user-friendliness of the most popular, most beloved Mint Mobile phones.
What makes Mint Mobile and their phones unique?
To start, Mint Mobile isn’t an ordinary pay-as-you-go mobile phone service–they break the rules. In fact, they’ve shaken up the industry by offering multi-month prepaid plans which save their customers money.
But their super-low monthly plans aren’t the only way they keep money in their customers’ pockets. They also offer a bring-your-own-phone option, as well as, the opportunity to pick from their selection of the latest, fastest phones.
Mint Mobile’s Bring-Your-Own-Phone program
When you switch your service to Mint Mobile, or if you’re considering doing so, you can use Mint’s Phone Checker to find out if you can bring your phone with you.
How does Mint Mobile’s Bring-Your-Own-Phone system work?
Mint Mobile’s Bring-Your-Own-Phone program is revolutionary. And luckily, most unlocked phones can be used with Mint Mobile’s service. Additionally, most other prepaid phones are unlocked, which means they’re not only usable for one mobile phone carrier brand.
Why do phone carriers lock phones?
To begin, the Big Four Mobile brands (T-Mobile, At&t, Verizon, and Sprint) don’t want to risk their customers finding a service that might work better for them. So, they customize their phones’ design to only accept their SIM cards. Ultimately, this limits the phone’s use since it’s only compatible with their service.
Of course, these locked phones aren’t cheap, either, which leads many consumers to abide by the sunk cost fallacy and stick with a network that charges more monthly. Furthermore, some carriers also offer a ‘discount’ on their phones to entice customers to purchase a phone that can only be used with that carrier.
What is an unlocked phone?
An unlocked phone is a mobile phone that isn’t locked into just one network. For example, whether it is a Samsung Galaxy Prime J7 or an iPhone 11, an unlocked phone can be used with a variety of carriers. Amazon
For example, Amazon has a category for unlocked cell phones where you can filter the results by brand like Apple or Huawei, by operating system like Windows and iOS, and by other criteria like storage, screen size, features, price, color, etc.
You can also buy unlocked phones anywhere you can buy locked smartphones, like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc.
How to bring your phone to Mint Mobile
Did you check your phone, and it’s unlocked and compatible with Mint Mobile? Then order your starter kit and get to talking.
If your phone is locked, you can call your service provider to find out if they can unlock your phone. Then you can get your carrier to unlock your phone if you’ve fully paid for it.
Unfortunately, many phone carriers no longer let your buy a phone upfront. Why? Because they want more leverage to keep you signing and re-signing contract after contract, they insist that you pay for your new locked phone monthly. You can call your phone service provider and ask about paying off your phone to have it unlocked.
One benefit of Mint Mobile is they let you choose to pay for your unlocked phone upfront or monthly.
Which carriers and networks offer phones that easily transfer to Mint Mobile?
This isn’t a complete list of phone companies whose phones can be unlocked and transferred to Mint Mobile, however, these phone carriers have a high rate of switching success:
- Cricket Wireless
- Straight Talk Wireless
- Simple Mobile
- Metro PCS
What phones does Mint Mobile offer?

And Mint mobile offers some state-of-the-art options including the Samsung Prime J7. But, overall, they offer the most populate phone brands like Samsung, Apple, Motorola, ZTE, LG, and.
While Mint Mobile offers top of the line phones like the iPhone 11 Pro Max, they also offer more affordable options like the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7.
The 5 best phones to use with Mint Mobile
In this review, we cover top-of-the-line flagship phones, user-friendly options, and best value phones. As you’ll see in our Samsung J7 Prime review, we don’t sugar coat it. Because we want you to see the good, the bad, and the laggy in order to make an informed decision when choosing the best phone to use with Mint Mobile.
1. Value for Money: The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime Price: $149 or $13/mo.
Our Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime Review
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is one of Samsung’s best-kept secrets. If you’re looking for one of the best phones to use with Mint Mobile that’s affordable and durable, this is it! Furthermore, the Galaxy J7 Prime is a reliable phone that gets the job done and has a great camera. Not to mention, it’s lightweight and attractive with enough RAM to load apps quickly.
What we love about the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7
First, the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7 32 GB has a large, bright HD display, a long-lasting battery, quick response, and prompt loading time. It’s hard to find phones in this price range that feature a 13 MP camera, which really makes this phone a great deal.
What else do we love about the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7? The sound clarity. With all the talk of RAM, megapixels, and screen size, we find this gets left out too often from reviews. The Galaxy J7 Prime’s internal speaker transmits audio clearly. Equally important, when you call someone the mouthpiece picks up your voice while omitting background noise.
Another key point, the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7’s great size–it won’t weigh down your pockets or purse. With this in mind, it won’t easily slip out of your hands while you’re trying to take a selfie. Yet, we don’t suggest you go out of your way to try this.
Of course, at such a reasonable price, it won’t break your heart if it falls and shatters. Although, we did find the Prime J7 to be quite durable, taking a few falls without shattering or coming apart.
You should invest in a Samsung J7 Prime case to keep it protected, though.
To sum it up, this phone has some frills but won’t break the bank.
The Samsung Galaxy J7: What could be better?
While the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime could have more RAM, we don’t see how they could offer this phone at the same price if that were the case.
Additionally, after a few months of use without a Galaxy Samsung J7 Prime case, you can expect the finish to rub off and look a bit worn. So, there’s the extra expense of a Samsung J7 Prime case and a screen protector.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime Specs
Now, are you ready to see the numbers? Here’s the breakdown of the Samsung J7 Prime’s specs:
|Samsung GalaxyJ7 Prime Specs|
|Screen||5.5” HD touch screen|

2. The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max: Top of the Line
Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max Price: $1099 or $46 per month
Our Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max Review
To begin, Apple lovers won’t be disappointed with this one, and neither were we. The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max features a big, bright screen, durable stainless steel exterior, and a fingerprint-free back. The 11 Pro Max is lightning quick and feels substantial. If you’re addicted to your iPhone, this is by far the best phone to use with Mint Mobile for you.
Of course, if you’re not already an iPhone user, you may want to stick to one of the latest Androids.
What we love about the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
This phone is by far one of the quickest, sleekest, and sturdiest phones you’ll find. For instance, the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max has a camera that rivals professional-grade DSLRs, and the extra lenses(ultra-wide angle and telephoto) come in handy. Furthermore, this phone won’t lag.
If your heart flutters for a massive screen, you can’t get much bigger than the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max’s 6.5-inch screen.
The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max: what could be better?
Is bigger better? For some, yes. For others, not so much. For example, I don’t love that the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max is too big to reach the top of the screen with one hand.
Additionally, the battery is non-removable, so you can’t replace it to extend the life of the phone.
Finally, the price gives me a bit of sticker-shock, too. If I was paying out-of-pocket for the phone, the $1099 price tag would cause me to think twice. Especially, when you consider you could buy seven Samsung Galaxy J7 Primes for that price.

3. The Google Pixel 3a: A Camera Lover’s Dream
The Google Pixel 3a Price: $449 or $19 per month
Our Google Pixel 3a Review
Overall, if you’re looking for a well-rounded, high-quality phone, you’ll appreciate the Google Pixel 3a. Furthermore, this phone is user-friendly, intuitive to navigate, and takes great action photos.
When it comes to durability, the Google Pixel 3a holds up well over time, too. And with water resistance, it’s great for anyone on the go or with kids, as well. Furthermore, the wireless charging feature adds to this phone’s longevity since you don’t have to worry about breaking or damaging the charging port.
What we love about the Google Pixel 3a
Surely, this phone had to be designed by a parent. Why?
- First, it seamlessly syncs to your Google Drive, so you don’t lose photos.
- Secondly, the camera takes amazing photos with its Night Sight and Portrait Mode– perfect for photos to send Grandma.
- Finally, if you try to take pictures of your kids, and they turn out as blurs, this phone’s action mode solves that problem.
Not only does the Adaptive Battery come in handy, but you don’t have to fiddle with settings or constantly check which apps are running.
Finally, the OLED display makes a huge difference for users. The colors are vibrant and the picture is crisp and bright.
The Google Pixel 3a: What could be better?
Despite the fact that the phone is water-resistant, it’s not shatterproof by any means. You’ll want to purchase a case to keep it safe.
But, overall, we couldn’t find any glaring issues with this phone.

4. The LG G8 Thinq: a premium phone that performs like a champ
LG G8 Thinq Price: $599 or $25 per month
Our LG G8 Thinq Review
To start, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and the LG G8 Thinq were neck and neck in some ways. With all the work LG put into improving their phones, we’re glad this one performs as well as it does.
The LG G8 Thinq feels as premium as it looks. For instance, the edge-to-edge display makes the most of its large 6.1-inch screen and the cameras take clear, crisp, high-resolution pictures.
Of course, it’s easy to see– the LG G8 Thinq’s speaker screen is a thing of beauty. To be precise, the speaker screen makes it sound like the person you’re speaking to is standing right next to you.
What about durability? The LG G8 Thinq is water-resistant, which we tried out. Of course, it works, but we would not recommend going scuba diving with your phone.
What we love about the LG G8 Thinq
First, this phone feels solid and looks great. Additionally, we love that the Z Camera has sensors that take depth-of-field into account, focusing better on people and objects in the forefront. Apps open quickly, and they don’t lag when you have several running at one time.
Uniquely, the speaker screen is effective and neat.
In reality, I’m more of a Bluetooth user, but we can appreciate that LG integrated a headphone jack.
Ultimately, the LG G8 Thinq is easy to hold, and your thumbs won’t get tired from the cross-screen reach. Also, I held it with one hand and had a co-worker bump into it, and I didn’t lose my grip.
The LG G8 Thinq: what could be better?
First, some may consider the price steep for a phone that isn’t quite as luxurious as an iPhone.
Next, the LG G8 Thinq also seems to stutter when recording video. While the Z Camera takes radically wonderful photos, the processing during videos could be smoother.
Finally, the touchless display is not very useful. I just never think to myself, “Boy, I wish I didn’t have to touch my phone.” Maybe it’s handy for people who bake or get their hands dirty working, though.

|Screen||6.1” QHD + OLED FullVision Display|
|Main Rear Camera||16 MP|
|Front Camera||8 MP|
|Operating System||Android 9.0 (Pie)|
|Processor||Octa-Core 2.84 GHz|
|Battery||Non-removable 3500 mAh|
5. Motorola G7 Play: a workhorse smartphone
Motorola G7 Play Price: $249.00 or $14 per month
Our Motorola G7 Play Review
To begin with, this is one of the best budget smartphones for Mint Mobile users. The Motorola G7 Play phone is perfect for users that want an excellent phone that takes great photos.
Furthermore, this phone is both affordable and reliable. Whenever I ask users what they think of their Motorola G7 Plays, they always respond that they were surprised by the quality, considering the price.
With the Motorola G7 Play, you won’t worry about glitching or lagging, but this phone could benefit from better materials, overall. Then again, you’re not paying for premium stainless steel, and a phone case can go a long way to protect this phone.
Finally, the Motorola G7 Play’s battery won’t drain in the blink of an eye, and it charges rapidly.
What we love about this phone
As you know, we’re suckers for value, and the Motorola G7 Play offers value. Its RAM works for the average phone user and the call clarity is commendable, as well. This phone weighs enough to feel sturdy but won’t strain your wrist.
Also, I can appreciate the headphone jack and the bright display.
The Motorola G7 Play: What could be better?
To begin, this phone isn’t huge, it’s camera lenses aren’t mega-sophisticated, and it doesn’t have any revolutionary perks. That being said, there isn’t anything about this phone that really sticks out as awful.
Additionally, I prefer a phone with an indicator light for texts, calls, and emails.
Keep in mind, if you’ve never owned a Motorola, we suggest you familiarize yourself with the home screen format and apps menu.
Overall, this phone works great for someone that is dazzled by reliability, simplicity, and value, too.

Ultimately, you know what you’re looking for in a great phone. And Mint Mobile has plenty to choose from. From flagship phones that re-define what a smartphone can do to workhorse phones that won’t take you through the wringer, all of these phones are excellent, of course.
- If you’re looking for the best value for money, try the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7. You can’t be the Samsung Galaxy Prime J7 price.
- Parents and photo junkies love the Google Pixel 3a.
- Finally, the iPhone 11 Pro Max does exactly what you expect from an Apple product.
Finally, finding the right phone doesn’t have to be complicated. Just take a moment to prioritize what you care more about, first. Then chat, talk, play, and take photographs worth sharing!
